Felix Nussbaum - a painter and victim of the Nazi Holocaust:

The artist and his family began 11 years of fear and persecusions in 1933. Felix was in Rome studying at the time at the Berlin Academy of the Arts when the Nazi Minister of Propganda came to Rome to speak to art elites. Felix realized there was no longer a place for him as a jewish artist. They went into hiding in Belgium and were thus criminals in the eyes of the Nazis when they were finally arrested. The artist, his parents, wife, brother, sister-in-law, and niece were all murdered in Auschwitz. The artist was 39 years old.
